With the series, dreamin' in Elsewhere, I explore dream states in public spaces. I believe that the reveries we all engage in while we go about our affairs are about being somewhere else. Even when there is no direct human presence in the images I present here, traces or the things left behind suggest a dream of an Elsewhere.
I try to bring a certain dignity to these everyday places where we must tread while trying our best to survive and hopefully, survive well. Life is a struggle and everyone of us tries to find his or her way. And it is in the accumulation of contradictions that life is felt most keenly. As the French philosopher Gaston Bachelard put it so eloquently in the Poetics of Space, "we are never real historians, but always near poets, and our emotion is perhaps nothing but an expression of a poetry that was lost".
